About

Microsoft has a few "Guy(s)" that spend countless hours posting amazing resources for the benefit of all of us.  The Hey! Scripting Guy Blog is the first that I came across.  I have used resources from this blog countless times.  Ed Wilson is the current Scripting Guy, but this has changed a few times since the blog started in 2004.  You can read the history of the Scripting Guy in Part 1 and Part 2 if you are interested.

The Deployment Guys is another blog that I check frequently.  I have had the pleasure of working with Ben Hunter from this team on our Windows 8 RAP at my current position as well as the ConfigMgr Guy Russ Rimmerman on our CM12 Implementation.

Other Microsoft "Guy(s)" are Ben Armstrong, the Virtual PC Guy, or  Chris Jackson, The App Compat Guy?  Even SharePoint has The SharePoint Guys . . .

Well I don't work for Microsoft, so don't take my Blog title "WinPE Guy" as an endorsement by Microsoft.  If it were, then I am sure they would make me change it to "The WinPE Guys" or something.  That's ok.  I've been a staple at my current company for over a decade, starting out as a Consultant for their Windows 2000 Migration, and then sticking around long enough for a Windows XP Migration, a Windows 7 Migration, and now working on a Windows 8 Migration as well.  It seems I have been working on Microsoft OS Migrations since 1995, completing Windows 95, Windows 98SE, and Windows NT 4 Migrations.

In every case, I have had to use some kind of bootable media to start the installation process (starting with floppies, yuck!).  I have used some customized form of WinPE (Windows Preinstallation Environment) since Windows XP when Winternals was around, and have used every version of WinPE since then, each highly customized to support my corporate environment.

Over the years I have learned many tips on how to use WinPE to do pretty much anything, and I thought now was a good time to share what I have learned.
